Green Roof System Provides Environmental Benefits as well as Aesthetics

Started in 1919, Centegra is McHenry County’s largest employer, with nearly 4,000 Associates and 500 volunteers.  Known for its cardiovascular, orthopedics, cancer and wellness programs, Centegra Health System continues to grow and develop services to meet the needs of the community. This desire to serve the region comes from the organization’s deep roots in the Northwest suburbs.

Centegra, derived from the words ‘central’ and ‘integrity’, they inspire and engage their community in their health and wellness.  In 1993, they were the leaders in the medically-based fitness and wellness industry, erecting one of the first free-standing centers of its kind.  In 2004, Centegra looked to expand and develop a new healthcare campus in Huntley, a neighboring community.

The new HealthBridge Center in Huntley, IL builds on the success of the original center and provides additional services and programs.  The planning organization of the facility centers on the exterior courtyard.  This courtyard is the external and internal focus of the Center with all major functions having a view of it.  The first floor features the welcoming main lobby space, a natatorium, large locker rooms for men and separately for women, group exercise studios, and various court areas.  The second floor consists of a jogging track, exercise equipment and a fitness testing area.  An extensive green roof system is located above the one-story volume to the west, providing environmental benefits as well as aesthetics when viewed from the fitness level.  The physical therapy area, connected to the main facility, features its own entrance to serve patients and members more efficiently.

Anchoring the northwest corner and connected to the indoor natatorium is a large outdoor aquatics facility with bathhouse.  It is the mission of Centegra to provide a center that appeals to all ages, further reinforcing the benefits of exercise and nutrition to its community for years to come.
